Using Technology to Encourage Student Involvement in the Classroom

Online education and Financial Aid

It seems like technology is changing the way we look at the world on an almost daily basis. We have seen the Internet connect people around the world, making communication almost instantaneous.

Education is one of the major arenas where technology is changing the thought process and philosophies of past days. Gone are the days when students were simply taught using material and information found solely within the walls of their schools. Today, teachers and students are using technology to not only encourage students, but also connect them to other sources of information.

For instance, student response systems are being used to help students become and stay involved in their classes. Whether they are studying English, history or math, each student is able to answer each question posed by the teacher. This allows teachers to have a better idea of whether all the students are actually understanding the subject being studied.

In addition, classrooms and other educational scenarios can be connected via technology. Many schools are using the Internet to connect to other schools and education institutions to share information. Students that may be training in a particular athletic field can now connect to athletic trainers, coaches and other professionals to gain training tips and information. They no longer need to travel to gain additional training from other coaches and athletes.

In today’s connected world, students who are experiencing a connect classroom will gain an advantage because they will become more involved, with not only their on-site peers but outside sources as well.

Running for Class President

Running for class president is a fun and exciting time for many students. In fact, this is something that can change a young person’s perspective when it comes to making decisions going forward in their life. To make this opportunity the best that it can be, students need to properly market themselves so that they have the right amount of exposure to succeed in their goals.

Make It Count

Having the proper strategy for this type of endeavor is key to making the process a fruitful one. Having flyers available for self advertisement is a great way to make this happen. All of the key campaign goals and statements can be summed up and posted for all to see. Students should consider posting their flyers at football games, concerts, and other events. This can be done at the school level or community level. Seek advice, support, and feedback from coaches and teachers.

One great strategy for a campaign is to seek out those who will provide the most votes. Many times, if you can win over athletes and others who are involved in school activities, you can involve an entire team or groups of student to participate in your efforts for class president.

Lasting Effects

Taking on the challenge to run for class president is a bold move. Having the proper tools to make it a successful campaign is as simple as developing an eye catching flyer for peers to see, networking with the right people, and taking ownership of the process.

Great Drills For Basketball Coaches

Youth basketball coaches have an enormous task at their hands these days. There are plenty of players that want to play one of the world’s most popular sports, but there is so much to teach, and often so little time. It’s important for players to be fundamentally sound, whether it be to establish a team concept or just for their own individual growth. That’s why, as a coach, you must teach them the art of effective basketball drills. Here are a couple of drills you can teach so that your team is playing as well as they can.

The first drill teaches a player the value of switching sides on the court. Many players play well, but only with one hand, and are weak with the other. In this drill a defender lines up in front of the ball handler. The defender then forces them to go to their left, then there right, and so on. Each time that a player is forced to go a direction they must handle the ball with the appropriate hand. The drill should end with a player taking a shot one side, then repeating the drill.

Around the world is a shooting drill where a player must make a certain number of shots from each place on the floor. This drill will allow the player, if done daily and with consistency, to develop a better range in his shots. It’s important that a player maintains proper form throughout the exercise so building the number of shots required might be in order.

There are just tips to make a player sound fundamentally. With these drills anyone can play offensive basketball.

Save Money For College by Refinancing

Teenagers and cars…two things that seem to be inextricably linked in the mind of most people. Some teenagers are fortunate enough to have a car that is completely paid for by their parents, or perhaps they’ve worked really hard to save their money. Others manage to get financing for a new car and are just suffering through the high interest rates. When you’re in high school however, and your only bill is the car, even a part time job in a fast food restaurant can cover the payments on a compact car.

Then when the time for college comes, even those students who managed to work all during high school will find they just don’t have the time once they’re faced with a new daily routine. Suddenly those once easy-to-make payments seem like insurmountable sums of money to scrape together each month. For these students it is time to think about a car refinance for that loan. Not only is it likely to lower their monthly payments, they will also save money over the life of the remaining loan. If they have been making timely payments the whole time, they will probably get much better interest rates now that they have a more established credit history.

Since this hypothetical teenager probably got a high interest rate due to their lack of a proper credit history, refinancing in college is probably a good idea even if they don’t find themselves strapped for cash. It will still save them money and help to show lending agencies that they are a fiscally responsible young adult.

5 Team Sports You’ve Probably Never Heard About

Everybody, it seems, is familiar with baseball, soccer, hockey, volleyball, and any of the other big, popular team sports. We watch them. We play them. We know them. Here are five other popular team sports that you may not have heard about.

Airsoft is comparable to paintball, but is played with realistic-looking replica firearms that fire pellets made from plastic, light metal or foam. The military combat like game has rules similar to paintball. Players hit are players “killed” and teams can work toward some goal or simply the elimination of the opposing team. Full-face protection and fairly low muzzle velocities keep injuries down. The game has garnered some controversy due in part to the highly realistic appearance of the guns.

Tchoukball is an indoor noncontact team sport developed in Switzerland and played around the world. Simply, the point of the game is to score points by bouncing a ball onto one of two “frames” (think mostly vertical trampoline) and having it land on the ground outside a semicircle goal.

Goaltimate is derived from Ultimate (or Ultimate Frisbee). The cross between Frisbee and soccer with elements of basketball is played between two teams of four players who try to throw the playing disc through a goal to score points. Offensive rules are the same as Ultimate; defensive rules differ.

Kabaddi is a contact team sport in which two teams of seven send individuals (a raider) to the opposing team’s side to wrestle down an opposing team member before returning to their side. The raider must hold his breath during this attempt and can be removed himself if he takes a breath before returning to his side.

Segway Polo – it’s exactly what it sounds like. The perennial game originally played on horseback has spawned a great many variations including water polo, underwater polo, bicycle polo, yak polo (yes, yakpolo), and segway polo.

Popular Team Sports from Around the World

Baseball, football, and basketball: these are the biggest team sports in America. Other team sports like soccer, hockey, and volleyball are also popular here, but not to the extent of those first three. They’re in our blood. But what team sports does the rest of the world love the way we love our baseball, football, and basketball?

Football (soccer)

In America, the Super Bowl is huge. Over 100 million people tune in to watch the big game. The World Cup is watched by almost half the planet. What we call soccer, what most of the rest of the world calls football, is very popular in Europe, Asia, South and Central America, and the United Kingdom. It’s a big deal.

Cricket

Baseball, that venerated American sport, began in England in the 18th century. Over a century or so before that, cricket was born in the same country. Cricket is very popular in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia. It also enjoys popularity in parts of Africa and Asia.

Hockey

Hockey – both ice and field, especially field – is wildly popular around the world. It’s been an Olympic sport for over 80 years and is the national sport of several countries. It is very popular in Asian and European countries.

Basketball and baseball also enjoy some worldwide popularity. Baseball is very popular is Japan and basketball is popular in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.

Football (soccer), cricket, and field hockey are international games played between dozens to over a hundred countries. Worldwide viewership for these individual sports approaches and sometimes surpasses a billion people. For some reason, football (soccer), cricket, and field hockey never really caught on in America all that much. They don’t enjoy anywhere near the same level of popularity here as they do elsewhere in the world.

Stretch Your Potential

So you finally have your perfect exercise program in place. It fits in with your daily life, it’s something you enjoy, and you are feeling really good about it. Everything is all set, right? Well, you’re almost there, but not quite. You wouldn’t hop in a car and slam the gas until you got up to speed. You would probably ease your way up and accelerate slowly, making the ride much more comfortable. A similar process should be used when preparing your body for a workout.

When preparing to exercise it is important to first warm up. A car functions better when it is warmed up and so do you. So how do you do that? Warming up before a work out can be as easy as walking, or light jogging – just enough cardio to get yourself going. This will aid your workout by increasing heart rate without shooting it through the roof. By easing in, you can extend your workout and prepare your body for what you are about to do.

Once you have warmed up, it is time to stretch. Stretching before and after exercise is important for a few reasons, and it can greatly affect the results of a regular work out. Once you have warmed up and your heart rate has increased, it is time to stretch. Figure out a set of stretches that compliments your work out. What muscles you stretch will depend on what muscles you are exercising. By stretching properly, you can increase your circulation, gain flexibility and range of motion, and even relieve the stress of tense muscles. These things will make an evident difference in your workout, as well as in your daily life. It is thought that the flexibility gained from stretching may even help prevent sports injuries in the future.

Once you have warmed up, stretched, and exercised, remember to stretch again and cool down to ease yourself out of the workout as well.

Making Up for a Hiccup in Life

Your college career is all about making sure your future is a lot brighter than it would be otherwise. Unfortunately, sometimes in life, you just cannot help but do things that you would rather not do in the moment in order to keep your future going on track. While every financial advisor will warn you about how dangerous payday loans can be, sometimes they are a part of life that can save you from having your situation go from being bad to being really bad. You can even use them as a short-term solution to keep yourself on track with your long-term goals.

For instance, sometimes your work schedule simply is not what you want it to be. If you did not get as many hours last week as you thought you were going to, this week might see you heading up to PayDay One to make use of its services. If your paycheck is just not enough to cover the cost of your tuition, then one bad week could end up spiraling out of control and take out an entire semester of hard work. While you might be able to rectify the situation for next year, you would lose a lot of ground on this one. A payday loan can be the difference between having a little hiccup in life and having a massive spasm that could derail many of your future plans and goals.

So, consider the possibility if you ever find that you have not gotten enough hours one week for your next bill. While ideally you would have ample savings, college students are not known to have much cash on hand. Sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do if you want to push through the short-term problems and build yourself long-term solutions. When it comes right down to it, your tuition is the lifeline of your future.

Who Trained My Trainer?

When a prospective client seeks out a personal trainer to help them get into shape, it is helpful to know what they are looking for. Showing up at the gym and picking a trainer are not the same thing. There are a variety of certifications out there, and it is important to know what you’re getting yourself into when you select a trainer with a certain certification.

While many organizations offer personal training certifications, there are a few forerunners that have more credibility than others. The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and the American Council on Exercise (ACE) are a few of the better known organizations out there, though certainly not the only ones. Through these and others like them, a person can obtain a variety of different credentials.

The NSCA offers two programs, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and the Certified Personal Trainer (CPT). These differ in a number of ways, but their primary distinction is that the CSCS is for group-based training, and the CPT is for single client training. The ACSM provides a much more diverse set of possibilities training its professionals to work with specific populations. An ACSM trainer may be specialized to work with cardiovascular or cancer patients, or may specialize in generally healthy individuals. The NASM offers an adaptable and comprehensive CPT program to encompass differing clients and scenarios. Lastly, the ACE has four separate certifications, one for CPTs, one for group fitness, one for lifestyle management, and an advanced fitness specialist.

Obviously, there is a plethora of information to deal with when trying to figure out what personal trainer to select, or even when trying to determine what a specific trainers certification means. They are not all equal, and some focus on different approaches than others, so figure out what is right for you and move from there.

Finding Apartments for New College Students

Boston University is a beautiful college located in the scenic downtown area and just minutes from Back Bay, a popular suburb of Boston. There are more than 200 courses offered every semester within 16 concentrations, including fine arts, science, education, health and medical, law, business, and more—so just about any student can find a program while studying at this university. The university is private, and offers a smaller campus for those who might want a more intimate and one-on-one experience. Financial aid and scholarships are also available to those who qualify, which can help to cut expenses and loans.

Finding a place to live in such a large city can be very overwhelming, particularly for those who don’t currently reside in or near Boston. Some may choose to live on campus in the dormitories, but for others this is just not an appealing option. Parents can also help their college-bound children find ideal Boston apartments located just a few minutes from the campus.

When searching for a quality apartment, there are several options. Some may choose to search online classifieds, while others prefer to use rental-specific search engines that are designed to rate and offer reviews of different apartment buildings. Searching for reviews given by current or former residents of specific locations is a great way to find out about the management and overall feel of these apartments, since residents will know much more of what truly goes on. Performing a geographic search based on proximity to the university will help students to know if they will need a car or to rely on public transportation in order to get to the campus. Living off-campus can also help students who are looking to work, since many jobs are often located away from the school. There is plenty to do in Boston; home to the Red Sox at Fenway Park, world-renowned shopping, and other fun activities that students can enjoy during their time at Boston University.
